It was good to get out and back on the bike for the first time in 2007 and considering the long lay off through winter Matt was reasonably up on the pace, the weather was o.k. for the time of year and although the track was dry there was not a lot of grip

Matt struggled all weekend by being very much underpowered against some of the best riders in the U.K. and Mattsbike is stil in Stock Spec AROUND 20BHP DOWN ON THE OTHERS!! But even so it was good to get some track time and out on the bike again, and the results were pleasing and his Lap Times were reasonable considering...So on the whole an average result...

Matt rode really well this weekend, qualifying 9th and finishing 2x9th and 8th in the company of some very good and experienced riders, still suffering from a severe lack of power and against a very very strong headwind which cost everyone around 2.5 - 3secs a lap. So with that taken from his lap times he produced some very good lap times, and the racing was very close all weekend (less than half a second between 5th and 15th place !!!!!

Matts first outing since having the Plaster removed from his left arm 2 days previous !!! And also in his new leathers and colours, which looked really smart...The weather was not too bad and Matt was consistently second quickest all day, only being beaten by a 1000cc Yamaha - In the first race he ran wide at Gerrards and dropped to 7th but rode really well gaining just about a place each lap ending in 3rd...The second race saw a better start and he disappeared hard on the tail off the 1000cc bike managing to stay with him for the first 4 laps and leaving the rest of the field well behind..feeling still a little stiff from the broken fingers he eased up and finished a comfortable 2nd..A very pleasing and confident return...

In atrocious weather all weekend and very difficult conditions, the track was flooded in parts !! Matt struggled amongst a field of 35 riders to qualify well in 11th place..In the first race Matt was in a group from 10th to 15th and tightly packed when he did move to the front the race was stopped due to an incident and the result was taken from the last complete lap which put Matt back into 12th...The second race went full distance and saw some good overtaking in the very wet conditions with Matt finishing eventually 11th...The Monday qualifying saw Matt pull in with a flat tyre after 2 laps still recording a low 1-55 sec lap with the bike drifting and weaving all over the place, The first race had Matt pulling off after 3 laps with a Front Tyre Puncture !!!! What were the chances of that ???

A dissapointing weekend really, Matt struggled with handling problems 'rear chatter' and drifting wide on corners from the front end...various changes and a new set of tyres didnt improve things much, and qualifying was a mix of wet, damp and dry !!! Race day on Sunday saw a change for the better in the weather, but not in the handling department, after a few calls to 'the people who know' we are now having to upgrade to new front end and rear shocks to handle both the extra power we now have and also Matts riding style...So more money (anyone out there that can help - please come forward !!) But all else aside it was still good to get out and more track time and experience can only be of benefit during what is so far a hard and frustrating year.....

With the new front and rear suspension sorted out(many thanks to K-Tech)we headed to Donnington Park, During the Qualifying the bike was 'weaving' and following a call to K-Tech some adjustments were made for the race and the gearing corrected. Matt started in 24th and progressed up to 17th during the race eventually finishing 21st but the handling was still not right, the front was drifting wide and wouldnt hold the line - so not a bad result out of 38 riders...We made a few more adjustments to the front end and entered the 'open' race at the end of the day - this saw Matt among mostly 1,000cc bikes and after the first lap Matt was 10th !!! the handling was much better and the lap times improved by over a second, Matt eventually finished in 17th BUT was 2nd 600 !!!

Having ridden Mallory before, we knew the gearing and the suspension set up, so were looking for a good result.....Should have known better!!! On the first lap of qualifying Matt was hit from behind going into Edwina's and shunted off !! Without being able to put a lap time in he had to start from Last on the Grid (a great start to the day). With a fairly full grid Matt was struggling to get through the field in each race eventually finishing 11th and 12th BUT putting in a best lap time only ONE second slower than the quickest lap of the race !!! and on a damp and slippery track - so really a good result and well worth the entry fee.....

Back to Snetterton (with a new clutch) and the suspension sorted..Qualifying went well with Matt recording a personal best and the suspension made a huge difference - the bike stayed on line and was the best he'd ever ridden it, considering the company he was in 15th was a great result...We are still running a 'stock'engine and therefore around 20-25bhp down on most of the rest of the field !!! The first race saw an accident directly in front of Matt in the first corner 'Riches' and a detour into the field put Matt last by around 4 secs, for the rest of the race Matt was playing catch-up, eventually finishing 20th still an excellent result and another P.B. of 1-13-24 secs.. In the second race, 1/2 way through the front end started drifting in the corners, He thought he was pushing to hard maybe, so eased up a little (better to finish than Bin-it) managing to finish 14th and at the end of the race the front tyre was completely shot to pieces...A very good weekend though

This is always a huge meeting and this year saw 68 entries and included all bikes up to 1,000cc with some excellent riders (some from BSB) and many teams, so we were not expecting too much...The race was split into two groups - top 36 in the 'A' group then the next 32 in the 'B' group - with qualifying split into 3 groups over the Saturday..Matt put in another personal best and made the 'A' Group !!! qualifying in 30th The set up was spot on, and Matt was full of confidence, (probably the first time since we had the bike) it proves the importance of bike set-up..In the first race on Sunday Matt ran another P.B. of 50-66 and finished 27th having some great and close racing. The second race Matt got a slow start and dropped down and was then struggling to get past a few of the 1000's he overtook in the corners and they went past down the straights so plenty of action but little improvement and the lap times suffered slightly...But another great weekend and result..

The last meeting of the year...And a wet one as well, the morning saw a very wet track so on went a set of 'wets' and out in the rain for qualifying, unfortunately there were a few 'offs' and the session was Red Flagged after 5 laps...Matt hadnt quite settled down and was in 14th..The first race was again in the wet and a good start saw Matt up to 9th and catching 8th and 7th places at around 1/2 a second a lap until the bike started sliding uncontrollably all over the place ( he came round Devils Elbow sideways!!) he pulled off and in the pits found the problem.....a dead flat rear tyre with a hole you could put your little finger in !!! He must have picked up a bolt or something from one of the many accidents round the circuit...A new rear tyre and the in the second race Matt was trapped on the outside at Gerrards losing a few places but 4 or 5 consistent laps in atrocious conditions gave Matt a comfortable 9th at the line.. A strong finish to the season, and hopefully, a good start to next year, which may see Matt competing in the Stock 600's with BSB at top level......Time to sort and book some winter testing and look forward to 2008.......
